From Backyard BBQs to Mastering the Grill

A Grilling Passion Passed Down Through Generations

Hey! My name is Dave, and I've been grilling since I was a kid. My dad taught me how to grill in our backyard and whenever we would go camping. I instantly fell in love with cooking and regularly would be in charge of grilling the meat for our family dinners. Fast forward to today and my love for cooking has only grown. The more I learn about BBQ, the more I want to cook delicious food for my family and friends.

Mastering the Grill: Q&A with Dave Lacamera

What inspired you to start barbecuing? How long have you been doing it? Tell us how you got started!
Watching shows like "Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives" on the Food Network, especially Guy Fieri’s adventures, really sparked my interest in grilling. I’ve been grilling since I was about 12 years old, with my dad being a huge influence in teaching me the ropes and making it a regular part of our family gatherings.
What advice would you give to someone new to grilling? Do you have any advice for a new content creator in the BBQ space?
My advice for any BBQ content creator is to have fun with it! Do it because you genuinely love cooking, not because you feel the pressure to grow a huge following. If you’re passionate about grilling, your audience will grow naturally, so be patient and focus on enjoying the process.
What is your favorite grilling technique that you've learned and why?
Reverse searing is my favorite grilling technique. It’s perfect for getting that tender bite while ensuring the meat reaches the ideal internal temperature. Plus, it’s a great method for cooking larger cuts of meat evenly.
What is your favorite recipe?
The classic BBQ brisket is my favorite recipe to cook. It requires time, attention to detail, and gives you the chance to experiment with different techniques. Plus, there’s nothing like biting into that perfectly cooked brisket – it’s the most delicious BBQ bite, in my opinion!
How did you get so passionate about cooking and BBQ?
It all started with my love for food shows and cooking alongside my dad. The joy of experimenting in the kitchen, whether it was grilling or learning new recipes, grew over the years. The more I dove into the world of BBQ, the more I realized how much there is to learn and how rewarding it is to cook for friends and family.
