This viral "In-N-Out Flying Dutchman" copycat recipe is undeniably delicious! While it may be messy to eat, its definitely worth it. The onions lend a delightful sweetness that balances out the richness of the beef and cheese. For those feeling especially adventurous, consider serving these burgers alongside homemade 'Animal Style' fries, topped with American cheese, burger sauce, and caramelized onions. This recipe was prepared on the Gravity Series 800 Digital WiFi Charcoal Grill, Griddle, and Smoker.
Instructions

01
Preheat grill to 400°F or medium/high heat.
-
02
Mix together the mayonnaise, ketchup, relish, vinegar, sugar, and salt to make your burger sauce.
03
Slice the onions into 8 slices (about 1/4 inch thick), being careful to keep the rings of each slice together.
04
Place your onion slices on the grill and let them cook for about 15 minutes per side, until they are soft and caramelized.
05
Separate the ground beef into 8 portions and form into very thin burger patties.
06
Place the patties on the grill, season with salt and pepper, and let them cook for about 3 minutes.
07
Before flipping, spread a thin layer of yellow mustard on each patty, then cover half of the burgers with one slice of American cheese.
08
After another 3 minutes, stack the burgers without cheese on top of the ones with cheese to make 4 sandwiches.
09
Assemble your burgers on top of the grilled onion slices, add a spoonful of burger sauce, and top with another grilled onion slice.
