Turning Followers' Wildest Requests into Grilled Perfection

Meet Max, AKA "The Grill Friend"

My name is Max, but I'm also known as "The Grill Friend" on social media. I really got into grilling when my wife and I purchased our first home in 2021 and we finally had our own dedicated outdoor space. I got the Masterbuilt Gravity Series and challenged myself to see all the things I could cook on it. Now I take suggestions from my followers who comment all kinds of things for me to make (cookies, burgers, breakfast, even ice cream)!

Onion-Wrapped "Flying Dutchman" Burgers

This viral "In-N-Out Flying Dutchman" copycat recipe is undeniably delicious! While it may be messy to eat, its definitely worth it. The onions lend a delightful sweetness that balances out the richness of the beef and cheese

A burger topped with melted cheese and spicy sauce, sandwiched between 2 grilled onion slices.

Mastering the Grill: Q&A with Max Weinstein

What inspired you to start barbecuing?
I’ve always loved cooking and experimenting with food, but I didn’t dive into grilling until 2021 when my wife and I got our first home. Having our own outdoor space was a game-changer! I got a Masterbuilt Gravity Series grill and set out to see just how versatile it could be.
How long have you been barbecuing?
I’ve been grilling seriously since 2021. It started with trying out different recipes on my new grill, and now it’s grown into a real passion and a way to connect with my followers online.
What advice would you give someone new to grilling?
Just go for it! Start experimenting, try new recipes, and don’t be afraid to make mistakes. Watching videos and reading recipes is helpful, but make each dish your own. Cooking to your personal taste is what really makes it fun.
Do you have any advice for someone starting out as a BBQ content creator?
Be yourself and enjoy the process. People love seeing real experiences, so don’t worry about perfection. Share what excites you, and don’t be afraid to put your own spin on trends or recipes.
What’s your favorite grilling technique?
Right now, I’d say making smash burgers! The crust you get with a proper burger press adds so much flavor and texture. There’s just nothing like biting into a perfectly crusted burger fresh off the grill.
What’s the most unexpected dish you’ve grilled?
I love taking suggestions from my followers, so I’ve ended up grilling things like cookies, breakfast dishes, and even ice cream! It’s all about pushing the limits and having fun with what you can do on a grill.
